Anthony Steward Head is still up for Buffy The Vampire Slayer Spinoff 'Ripper'

For years there has been talk and meetings, pitches and ideas for a spinoff show from Buffy The Vampire Slayer focusing on everyone's favourite watcher Rupert Giles (Head). Of course our prayers weren't answered and the show never became reality like 'Angel' did, however all hope isn't lost.

Rupert Giles was the watcher, trainer and father figure to Buffy The Vampire Slayer and taught her all she knows about the forces of darkness and battling them. He was the only constant paternal figure within her life and fought alongside her raising and mentoring her as his own. - If you've never seen Buffy before, I cannot recommend you to go out and by the collection (or download Netflix)- It's incredible.

Just this week Anthony Stewart Head confessed that he is still more than happy to be part of the Buffyverse in a Giles spinoff. The spinoff itself was intended to show how Giles is coping after the events of season 7's television finale and explore his adolescent days when he was known as 'The Ripper'.

He said to Vulture in an interview...

"You know what? I would do it. I would do anything to work with Joss again. He's a wonderful storyteller, a great director, and a lovely man."

The basis for the season would be Giles once he has become separated from Buffy and the Scoobies and must walk alone, Head explained to Vulture "It's a beautiful, beautiful ghost story, and it's extremely haunting, as you would expect from Joss"

"If Joss is still game, then I am!"

Yet if this ever did come to pass there would defiantly be a few continuity problems arising. As within the continuation of the seasons (now in comic book form) Giles was murdered. Gone. However resurrected by Angel and Faith but in the atypical Buffyverse fashion this didn't work the way we expected. Giles' soul was restored but his physical appearance is now that of a child. I'm going to hazard a guess at this not being in the original pitch for the spinoff 'Ripper'.

But with hopes to work with Joss Wheon (series creator) again, we may just get a further glimpse into the life of Rupert Giles. This is one thing I'll never give up hoping for!

Anthony Stewart Head is currently staring in Syfy's Dominion. Whilst Whedon himself is talking his second Avengers film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. But all good things in time (I hope)...
